How to use webcams and microphones

The webcam and microphone features both work together simultaneously. Here is how to use them:

To start your webcam and mic click on the webcam icon at the top of the chat applet. This will load both the mic and webcam however you do not have to have both for one to work, for instance if you only have a mic but no cam the webcam window will just show a white background but your mic will be working and the same if you only have a webcam but no mic.

If your webcam does not load you may need to right click on the webcam window and click "settings", then click on the left button that looks like a monitor and make sure that it is set to "allow".

Once your webcam and microphone is activated you can hover your mouse over the window which will pop up two icons, a microphone and a camera. Clicking on the microphone icon will mute your mic. It is highly recomended that you keep your mic muted until you are ready to speak if your sound comes through speakers instead of headphones as the mic is voice activated and sound from your speakers may activate it and create an echo effect.

Clicking on the camera icon will pause your webcam image. This is handy in situations where you don't want people to see what you're doing such as picking your nose.

When someone clicks on your webcam icon a notice will pop up asking if you wish to accept or deny the request. An eye icon will appear by everyones username in the user list that is watching or listening.

In order to view someone else's webcam or mic simply click on the webcam icon next to their name in the userlist. If the person accepts your request their cam window will appear.

Remember that you can make the webcam window larger or smaller by placing your mouse over the bottom right corner of the cam window and dragging it.

It's recomended that you maximize the chat applet window by clicking the square at the top right of the chat window if you are watching more than one webcam or have several private messages at one time so that it doesn't block the entire chat window. You can also change your setting in the "options" menu at the top of the chat applet to bring up private messages in a new window which you can drag anywhere as opposed to being able to only have them in the chat applet.
